The GAA is a union of all students, past and present, who have worked at the Gateway, the student newspaper at the University of Alberta. It’s run by a volunteer Executive Committee, supported by the Office of Alumni Affairs at the U of A. All former paid staff of the newspaper are members of the Association, as well as any former Gateway volunteer who had more than 5 contributions to the paper.
Check out the GAA website. We are also always more than happy to get alumni involved in current Gateway events or simply hear from them and listen to their stories about their times at the paper. If you are a Gateway alumni or know of one who would like to be involved or tell their story, please email Editor-in-Chief Jonn Kmech or call him at (780) 492-5168.
On Wednesday, 21 November (the Gateway’s 97th birthday), the Gateway History Project was launched. Gateway staff and volunteers past and present are now embarking on a collaborative project to research and document the Gateway’s past, with the goal of producing a series of features that detail the Gateway's rich and illustrious history, with a potential book project hopefully happening sometime in the not-too-distant future.
If you’d like to get involved with this project, whether by helping us find other alumni, tracking down photos and memorabilia, or telling us your stories, send an email to project coordinator Jonn Kmech, or call him at (780) 492-5168 – he’ll get you started from there.
