A&E Commentary

Like many Canadians, I was raised on a healthy diet of American television. Some of my childhood favourites include Full House, Family Matters, and The Simpsons. However, as a kid, I never realized three things: Michelle Tanner was white, Steve Urkel was black, and the people of Springfield had severe jaundice.

Occasionally, entertainment presents us with situations where we must question if anyone is thinking of the children.

Last night, I had a rather worrisome dream — one so vivid and devastating that it’s almost an insurmountable task for me just to talk about, but one that I feel could help everyone gain some much-needed perspective.

Ever since Nintendo released the Wii to the public, competitors Microsoft and Sony have been trying to find ways to topple the gaming giant and figure out what the secret is to their success with their motion-control-oriented console.

It's amazing how such a cool concept in theory can turn out to be such a technical and PR clusterfuck; the latest example coming from the gaming world with Ubisoft’s new Online Services Platform. “Ubisoft taking on Internet pirates!” sounds like some incredible modern throwback to the days of privateers, piracy, and warfare on the high seas.

Until we perfect cyborg technology, people will continue to do two things: age and eventually die. Because of this, we’re designed to be replaceable out of necessity — our ability to make babies is proof enough of this.

If you’re like me, you’re probably hopelessly addicted to at least one or two TV shows. And if you are me, you’re probably hopelessly addicted to 17 TV shows and are on the verge of failing every course this semester and probably a few in the winter term as well.

The Penny Arcade Expo (or PAX, as it’s known to most) is the largest video-game convention in North America.

Over the past year, I’ve probably been to about 20 concerts, and over time, I’ve noticed that my level of enjoyment at a show is usually affected more by other concert-goers than the band onstage. Many times the experience of taking in live music is unnecessarily ruined by people who fail to display basic courtesies to other fans at the same show.
